Back in May, I received an email from a panicked bride. With her wedding less than a month away, she was trying to find a makeup artist after another cancelled on her last minute. Oh, the horror! She was much calmer than I would have been (and most others for that matter), but even so, she was still plenty concerned.
I immediately wanted to help, but was unsure I could. I already had a full wedding party booked the same afternoon. Luckily, her wedding was earlier in the day and I felt confident I could swing it. And boy, am I glad I did. As soon as I met the bride, I was really glad I was able to help. The bride, Marissa, was not only gorgeous, but she was also incredibly warm and funny.
The other day, Atlanta, GA wedding photographers, This is You shared their amazing photos from Marissa and Nate’s wedding on their blog, and I couldn’t wait to share the gorgeous couple with you guys. So keep reading for some pictures, and for a detailed explanation of what I used on this beautiful blushing bride.
The Bridal Makeup Trial
At her trial, we discussed everything about her wedding in hopes of creating the perfect look for her big day. Her wedding was going to be at the State Botanical Gardens, here in Athens, Georgia, which I knew would make for beautiful photos. She showed me her dress, and then some photos from her bridal hair trial (with Mary from Pageboy Salon here in Athens, GA) and from there we were able to come up with a look she would love.
Her entire wedding had a boho-chic feel, so I felt a natural, elegant look, with a touch of drama would be perfect. She had great skin, so I used my all-time favorite illuminator, Becca Cosmetics Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal to create a luminous glow that every bride needs. I used foundation sparingly, followed with a touch of Dandelion by Benefit Cosmetics for the blush, and used bareMinerals warmth to create subtle contours.
I knew we could create the “touch of drama” she wanted with her eye makeup. Marissa has neutral/warm undertones with strawberry blonde hair, so she was able to pull off a golden shimmer eye effortlessly. For that extra “wow” factor, we finished with individual false lashes.
Wedding Day Makeup in Athens, GA Humidity
The day of the wedding was a typical Athens, GA summer day. It was sweltering and the humidity was suffocating. And although the setting at the State Botanical Gardens was absolutely beautiful, the humidity seemed to hang around all morning. Luckily, her hair stylist knew what she was doing, and used all the right products to make sure the bride and bridesmaid’s hair stayed put throughout the night. And since I’ve spent my whole life doing makeup in the Georgia heat, I reassured her she would be fine… And she was. Since I knew the humidity could be an issue, I used Urban Decay’s De-Slick Oil Control Setting Spray as the very last step of her makeup.
I was honored to be a part of such a beautiful day, and wish Nate and Marissa all the best on their new adventure together. If you want to see more great photos from this wedding, check out This Is You’s blog post.
