Makeup & Beauty Must-Haves for New Moms (or Anyone in a Hurry)

Wow. It feels weird to be writing again. It feels good, but odd since it’s been so long. I’m writing this while my daughter is playing in her walker, bouncing, singing, and beating the shit out of her toys. Writing with that kind of distraction isn’t easy with my A.D.D., but I figure if I don’t just start, I’ll never get back to it. So here I am!

Just to catch you guys up, here’s a quick update of what happened while I’ve been away. I gave birth to my sweet little girl, Layla Mae on April 26, 2015 after only 12 hours of all-natural, unmedicated labor! Motherhood has certainly been challenging, but also very rewarding. She’s 6 months old  and is so fun to be around. Watching her grow has really been a joy.

With motherhood comes a whole new set of challenges, and my “getting ready time” has been severely cut into, and I’ve had to find new products to help me get presentable in as little time as possible. That’s why I figured my “Makeup & Beauty Must-Haves for New Moms (or Anyone in a Hurry)” would be the perfect first post back. So, keep reading to find out which products for getting ready in a hurry that I recommend for all you beauty buffs out there.

1. Dry Shampoo: Tigi Bed Head Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo

This probably goes without saying, but dry shampoo is a must-have when you can’t remember the last time you showered. Any dry shampoo works, but I really like Tigi Bed Head Rockaholic Dry Shampoo, $21.99. I just bought some on sale for $9.99, which was a great deal. I’ve been using it almost every day (seriously, my hair is probably 95% dry shampoo any given day now) and I just replaced the bottle after 3 months of use. That’s some serious bang for your buck. Not to mention, it smells soooo good. When you reek of sour breastmilk (yeah, sorry about that), it’s nice to have your hair smell as fresh as possible.

2. Undereye Concealer: Yves Saint Laurent ‘Touche Éclat’ Radiant Touch

I’ve repped this product many times in the past, and all motherhood has done is make me love this product even more. Yves Saint Laurent ‘Touche Éclat’ Radiant Touch is single-handedly the BEST undereye concealer and highlighter ever. And when you haven’t slept more than an hour or two at a time in weeks, believe me, this concealer is a lifesaver. It’s the perfect thing to hide those exhausted new mom eyes while still looking natural and fresh.

3. Bronzer: Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder

My daughter was born in April, so I spent pretty much all of spring/summer indoors, which made me even more pale than I normally am. I didn’t have time to apply my favorite sunless tanner, so bronzer was all I had. I love Bobbi Brown Bronzing Powder because it works on all skin tones, including my nearly transparent skin. It gave me a pop of color that made me look a little less like the walking dead.

4. Tinted Moisturizer or Primer: Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer

Towards the end of my pregnancy, when I had absolutely no energy, I started killing two birds with one stone and using Tarte Colored Clay CC Primer in fair. It served as a primer and a color corrector, which was all I needed for an even, effortless base. It was also great for my oily pregnancy skin (seriously… the “pregnancy glow” they promised was just excess oil).

5. Mascara: Laura Geller GlamLASH Dramatic Volumizing Mascara

The one makeup item I simply can’t live without is my mascara. My eyelashes are pretty much clear, and without it, I look like a ghost. I have a gazillion favorite mascaras, but my newest favorite is Laura Geller GlamLASH Dramatic Volumizing Mascara, $24 at Ulta. I’d apply my favorite tinted primer, undereye concealer, some bronzer, and a couple of coats of this mascara, and it was just the confidence boost I needed.

So those are my top 5 beauty must-haves for life as a new mom. Any other new moms out there, or anyone in a real hurry, what are your favorites? And do you have any suggestions that will help reduce getting ready time? Share them in the comment section below!
